Ruby Keen is run and owned by Artist and Jewelry designer, Susan Powell. She began her artistic journey by beginning with a degree in Education with a minor in art. She has worked at four community colleges in Northern Illinois. There she taught oil painting, jewelry making, website design and how to start a small business in IL, along with other topics.
Ruby Keen is a culmination of her work and musings. Susan believes that art is something that everyone should have in their life. She strives to make art objects that will make their lives a little more joyful. Whether it is a painting you hang in your bedroom and wake up every day to, or a mug that you sip your coffee from day after day.
Susan’s work is varied and has never stuck to any one style. She thinks it is from her early days as a student, where in the process of earning an art education degree, you are required to take a huge variety of art classes and basically try all the mediums and styles of art. The process of exploration and trying new things and mediums is for her, one of the most exciting parts of working as an artist. She does work in themes, and as you come back to Ruby Keen, you will find new products, t-shirts and artwork that reflects these themes as she further explores topics and images.
She welcomes commission work and is always happy to create a custom product for you. Like a large painting, but it is out of your budget? Just contact us and we can create it into a framed fine art print for you, or put the image on a mug or tote bag!
Why the name Ruby Keen?? Susan is a great lover of mysteries, especially British murder mysteries and “who done its”! We will leave it to you to puzzle out where the name came from!
